Description

Radha Rani’s daily routine was to have her meal only after seeing the peacock birds in the Mor Kuti Park (peacock park) located in Barsana. One day, she was disheartened to find that not a single peacock had come to Mor Kuti. Upon seeing Radha sad, Lord Krishna presented the “mayur dance“ (peacock dance) with his friends in front of Radhe Rani. Radha Rani was overjoyed and said that Radha would dance every time Krishna became a “mor” (peacock). Today, this dance is performed on numerous occasions as a symbol of happiness and love.

The Mayur dance is a high energy performance. After fitting into heavy costumes, artists also need to wear peacock feathers that are woven to form a fan-like pattern. It requires skill as the tapestry is heavy and difficult to lift and balance on the head.

Artists: Performed by various artists of BLKMS, composed & sung by Vishnu Dutt Sharma, written by Anjaana, recorded at Tara Audio Point in Mathura and videography by Mad Studio SK.
